Tour de France 2027: UK to host historic dual Grand Departs

The UK, Scotland and Wales governments have been key partners in cycling and UK sports.

John Swinney, Scotland’s first minister, said: “Welcoming the Tour de France to Scotland is a huge honor. We know it is one of the most iconic and inspiring competitions in sporting, and Scotland provides the ideal stage for major events.”

Culture Minister Lisa Nandy added: “The first women performing the Tour de France will be a historic moment and inspire the next generation of female cyclists while supporting our mission to break barriers for women and girls to participate more in sports.”

The first men’s Tour de France was held in 1903, with former British champions being Bradley Wiggins (2012), Chris Froome (2013, 2015, 2016, 2016, 2017) and Geraint Thomas (2018).

The Tour de France females were launched in 2022.

Last year’s men’s return trip was held in Fiorentina, and the 2026 match began in Barcelona.

In 2024, Women’s Race and Rotterdam became the host city (Rotterdam), shining for the first time outside France.

Christian Prudhomme, general manager of the men’s Tour de France, said: “The UK has always welcomed the tour with enthusiasm and pride, and this collaboration in England, Scotland and Wales will make the event even more special.”
