Sam Ruthe: New Zealander, 15, becomes youngest person to run sub-four-minute mile
He finished his first match with Olympian Tanner, finishing part of the 1500m title in March.
“It’s probably my favorite target,” Ruthe said after his recent record breaking.
“I absolutely love this one the most and everyone here supports me.
“This is the most set for me, so I’m so happy to get this.”
The four-minute mile has long been the mid-range for the 25-year-old Sir Roger Bannister, England, the first benchmark to beat the mark in 1954.
Two-time Norwegian Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen ran the miles at 16 at 3:58.07, while Australian Cam Myers’ 3:55.44 is currently the best time to be 16.
