Real Madrid v Arsenal: Female players’ safety ‘at risk’ due to poor pitches
While the European Union has not yet made a formal comment on the stadium status during Real Madrid v. Arsenal, it has been criticized by players, managers and experts.
Former Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright described the tone as “shame” in a video on his Instagram page.
Gunners manager Renee Slegers said she didn’t want to criticize Real Madrid or Europe enough, but expressed her misfortune.
“I think we’ve seen a few games lately and the courts are in poor condition,” she said after the game.
“We made a plan, but it was always hard at the time because one season and over time you could do things, the way you wanted to do things. Then, reality came, these conditions came, and suddenly, you needed to do something different, and it was hard.”
After the Women’s Cup final, Chelsea players have much less diplomacy.
“I don’t think this looks like it’s suitable to be honest with you,” Scottish midfielder Erin Cuthbert told BBC One. “We didn’t perform the best, but we were just hanging there.”
Bruce manager Sonia Bompastor added: “It’s a pity to get the pitch in this final, especially when you expect the best ground and court in the world in England.
“I’m not sure if this is the last game for the man. It’s the same. We just need to make sure we have the best facilities and grass to play the game.”
