Grand National: Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Inothewayurthinkin to miss Aintree meeting
Cheltenham Gold Cup champion Inothewayurthinkin will skip next month’s Big National after trainer Gavin Cromwell decides to take a break.
Seven years old Reject your favorite Galopin des Champs Mark Walsh won six wins after a historic hat-trick at the Prestbury Park court.
Inothewayurthinkin was a 5-2 favorite for the big nationals on April 5, but the horse owned by JP McManus was scraped off on Tuesday’s list of contestants in the iconic Liverpool rushing sport.
“He has only seven, and we’re working so hard on the jump this season that we think it might be a step back to Aintree’s running him,” Cromwell said.
“We are definitely happy to win the Golden Cup, which may require him to try to win a grand national at the age of seven.”
Cromwell said the Punchestown Golden Cup at the end of April was a “choice”.
He added: “We will see him in the next few weeks before we make a decision on this.”
Golden Miller in 1934 was the only horse to win the Golden Cup and the Big National Doubles in the same season.
