Egypt: President El-Sisi Meets the Prime Minister and the Minister of Communications

Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Prime Minister Dr Mostafa Madbouly; Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dr Amr Talaat; Director of Military Academy Lieutenant General Ashraf Zahir.

Mohamed El Shennawy, spokesman for the presidency, said the meeting focused on the government’s efforts toward the “Digilians” initiative, which aims to qualify and train young people in the fields of communications, information technology and software. The plan is intended to serve as a cornerstone in the digital transformation process and to enhance digital exports as part of the national economic development strategy.

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology provided an overview of the details of the plan. He noted that it is committed to providing employment training by creating jobs in high-demand areas such as artificial intelligence, programming, cybersecurity, digital design and digital art. He added that the initiative will be open to register with individuals of all ages from all academic and professional backgrounds, as well as all Egyptian governors, to expand the beneficiary base.

During the meeting, it can be confirmed that the application to join the program will be digital and the application window will be opened on the platform, which will be created for this purpose after the Eid al-Fitr holiday. The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology will announce this as the purpose is to enable the largest number of young people to work in the most important areas of the information labor market. The Minister of Communications and Information Technology noted that the initiative was based on the idea of ​​its full residence in the beneficiaries of staff and reached an agreement with the Military Academy to exploit the War Academy building in Heliopolis for this purpose after the academy was relocated to the new administrative capital.

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology said the program will include a comprehensive training course for beneficiaries, whether it is technical training, personal skills or English. It will also include hands-on training in collaboration with major international and local companies in Egypt. Dr. Talaat added that the initiative includes repertoire for master’s degree from many of the most prestigious international universities, in addition to four training tracks that last from four months to two years. The goal is to accept 5,000 students per year from the program, considering that the cost of preparing accommodation and learning space will reach about £3 billion, while the cost of training courses will be about 1 billion Egyptian pounds per year.

President El-Sisi has introduced directives to enhance standards of accuracy, transparency and impartiality in the beneficiary selection process to promote public confidence in the program, especially as this will help the work required for its beneficiaries to join the labor market.
