Boeing Stock Surges as Japan Airlines Order, CFO Comments on Tariffs, Cash Burn

Boeing (BA) Stock jumped Wednesday, reaching the S&P 500 points after Japan Airlines announced it had ordered 17 new 737-8 aircraft from aircraft manufacturers.

The airline said it will add 17 to 21 planes in March 2023, while 11 from Airbus will replace its aging Boeing 767. 38 Boeing 737-8 aircraft are expected to be shipped to the airline in fiscal 2026, while other Boeing aircraft are expected to be forecast in fiscal 2027 and 2028.

Bank of America analysts said Wednesday that another research firm, Aero Analysis Partners, forecasts that Boeing’s March delivery will be higher than last month and may match or exceed the 40 delivered in January. Analysts maintain a neutral rating of $185.

CFO says there is no “recent impact” of tariffs

Also on Wednesday, Boeing CFO Brian West Aluminum and steel. West said Boeing’s supply chain is mainly based in the U.S. according to the transcript provided by Alphaense, and said its first-quarter results appeared to be in line with expectations.

“We’re seeing less working capital,” West said when asked about the first quarter. “So when we close the quarter, it’s probably better, and it’s likely to make up hundreds of millions of cash flows better.”

Boeing did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the Japanese Airlines order. Stocks rose more than 5% on Wednesday.
