Boat Race 2025: Imogen Grant says banning PGCE students is ‘unfair’
Annamarie Phelps, president of the University of Cambridge Ship Club, said: “There is no doubt that the status of the PGCE program is highly valued and operates at the graduate level.
“Despite the university’s recommendations on the status of PGCE, the decision was reached, despite the precedents of PGCE students from Oxford and Cambridge have been allowed to compete in the past few years.”
The regatta company that hosts the competition on behalf of the club said: “It is a highly competitive process and has strict (public) eligibility criteria that can be considered in the crew.
“These standards are jointly agreed by the two competing clubs without any third party participation.
“Equally, both clubs agree to independently interpret the existence and ultimate authority of the group to provide a ruling on any dispute or clarify the rules if necessary.
“The club is a signatory to the signing of a common agreement and agrees to be ruled by the Interpretation Panel, without further recourse.”
