For Petko Ganchev, a regular Sunday afternoon spent his former club Arda Kardzhali drama Levski Sofia turned into a reassuring night for friends and family, and he was still alive.

Arda quickly realized the mix and posted on the club’s Facebook page before the game ended, saying they were misleading.

Ganchev, who had been with Arda for five years, said the club’s athletic director Ivaylo Petkov then called him to apologize.

“Look, it happens sometimes, but it’s not easy,” Ganchev said.

“It is normal to spread rumors in the village, but they announced it before the entire football audience in Bulgaria.

“So many people called me – relatives, friends, acquaintances rather than those big acquaintances. It’s not a pleasant situation, but ultimately we have to stay positive.”
