Manchester United: Season ticket price rises for older fans branded a ‘total disgrace’
A Manchester United fan group said the rise in season pass prices faced by some of the club’s older supporters is “complete disgrace”.
Unity Announced on Monday For the third consecutive year, most prices will rise about 5%, while those under 16 will freeze, but some older people face larger hikes.
The 50% discount for some of these fans has been reduced to 25% across the board and will now track the state pension age at 66.
Fan Group said in 1958 that this effectively equates to the club’s “most loyal fans who have supported the club for decades” by 57%.
“This is the first phase to reduce the number of season ticket holders,” it said in a statement.
“We have been running for clubs trying to marginalize fans of the game. Cutting 50% of the OAP franchise to 25% because it is a complete shame for those who own it.”
BBC Sport’s Manchester United Club Page Response to the announcement is requested. Some responded to the price increase was “cynical” and “insulted”, while one fan said they were “heartbroken” and no longer affordable.
The trust of Manchester United supporters (must) says it will seek “urgent discussions” with the club and hopes to reduce premium discounts in more than one season.
“The impact of such policy changes is a huge price increase for older fans, and it is no surprise now that they have announced that they have attracted such a huge attention,” it must be said in a statement.
Co-CEO Omar Berrada announced the price change, saying the club “works to come up with a fair and reasonable pricing plan” and said new changes are being made to offset the rise in operating costs”.
Manchester United has implemented many Cost reduction measures Recently, with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, said these “had to regain Manchester United’s foothold”.
United negotiated with the fans’ advisory board and said season ticket prices were lower than those adjusted for inflation a decade ago and were comparable to other clubs in northwest England, freezing until 2022 for 11 consecutive seasons.
The club said the reduction in premium discounts eliminated anomalies, with some fans down 50% from 50%, while others allowed United to retain offers for all premium tickets.
