Welsh Rugby Union should have ‘fronted up’ after England humiliation – Gareth Davies

Former Welsh Captain Sam Warburton suggests that WRU needs to bring one of four Wales regions To help resolve the country’s rugby crisis.

This is in the midst of an ongoing debate on how Osprey, Scarlet, Cardiff and Dragon should function in the future.

But Davis believes that in Europe, it should provide greater financial situation for Europe to challenge better regions rather than automatically allocate funds evenly in four aspects.

“The four regions in the Wales region will not compete for the top of Europe,” Davis explained.

“I think there should be some judgment on who is a serious competitor to pay for doing well in Europe.

“Now, if the union decides to go with four (regions), I think they have to seriously consider what that distribution is because to divide the four into four distributions, I think I’m just too thin for the whole situation.”

Warburton suggests that if Wru chooses one of the four regions, the dragon will be the “suffering” side.

However, David Buttress, co-owner of the Gwent region, believes that WRU needs to increase investment in Welsh rugby rather than “shrink the game”.

“I think Welsh rugby has been underinvested for a decade,” he told him. BBC broadcast Welsh breakfast.

“Over the past decade, we have built a hotel, rooftop walks and Ireland has been building a world-class rugby academy and we have seen the consequences.

“We’re talking about solutions to cut teams while other countries are talking about investing in professional games.

“I understand where people come from, but unless we start thinking about how to grow the game instead of shrinking it, Welsh rugby will condemn its long-term decline. There is a turnaround now.”
