Republic of Ireland: ‘Everything seems fine’ with manager Heimir Hallgrimsson says Wolves’ Matt Doherty

Republic of Ireland defender Matt Doherty said he had a “good relationship” with Heimir Hallgrimsson despite his criticism of the manager last year.

Doherty, 33, publicly expressed frustration as he omitted his omissions in the October National League match against Finland and Greece.

The werewolf is a late call to the return match against Finland next month and against England and is again included in the roster of the National League against Bulgaria this week.

“I stood in the comments at the time. That was a long time ago and a lot has passed since then,” the former Tottenham player said.

“At the moment, we have a good relationship and everything seems to be good. We haven’t said much.

“We cleaned things up and I think the last time I was in camp, so now everything is fine.”

Doherty won his 48th innings when the match against Finland began in November, although he was an unused substitute in England’s 5-0 defeat.

He added: “You want to be a player for every player and it’s natural to think it’s natural.

“Obviously, I was disappointed at the time, I said, but I managed to get back.”
