Nations League: Greece v Scotland – John Carver on George Hirst
Assistant coach John Carver said George Hirst in Ipswich town brought Scotland “a different dimension”.
Hirst was called in the playoffs between Greece and Greece after being approved to represent his grandfather’s home.
The 26-year-old joined Che Adams, Tommy Conway, Kevin Nisbet and James Wilson as the forwards of Steve Clarke.
Hurst played four times this season for Ipswich Town, including their second in Saturday’s 4-2 home defeat against Nottingham Forest.
“We’ve been watching him for months. We lost Lyndon Dykes and got injured, who is kind of similar to Lyndon,” Carver said.
“He scored goals on the weekend, which is a way to leave your club football and participate in international football.
“He’s a smart guy, he’s smart, he loves football, he’s right for himself right away. He brings us different dimensions.
“I talked to him on Sunday night and we talked about a lot of things, but the most important thing is that he is a good player and he certainly brought something to the team.”
