Milutin Osmajic: Preston striker charged after Hannibal Mejbri racism allegations
Preston forward Milutin Osmajic has been charged with racial abuse of Burnley midfielder Hannibal Mejbri.
The FA has been investigating alleged events during this period Last month, a 0-0 draw at Deepdale.
Now, it has accused Osmajic and Montenegro must respond by March 25.
“The forward allegedly violated FA Rule E3.1 by acting in an inappropriate manner and/or using abuse and/or insulting words,” a statement read.
It further allegedly constitutes a “serious violation” as it includes “citations, whether express or implied, stained and/or race”.
In the second half, Tunisia responded in anger to what Osmajik and Hannibal seemed to have said, delaying the second half for a few minutes.
Osmajic, 25, “strongly refuted” the allegations.
Two weeks later, Preston won 3-0 and the teams faced each other in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
Burnley players refused to shake hands with Osmajik before the game, and Hannibal was abandoned by boss Scott Parker.
Osmajic scored his second goal.
Parker said at the time: “It was a tough decision, and we are a little weak here today because Hannibal is a big member of this team and I think it is Hannibal’s best decision.
“I don’t want to put him in the situation here, so we made the best decision for Hannibal. That’s why he’s not on the game day team.”
In an Instagram post after the first game, the former Manchester United player wrote: “I won’t be silent about what happened today. I always call on racism whenever I hear or see it.
“This is the only way for us to change as a sport and society. I’m a strong person, but no one has experienced this disgusting abuse on the court.”
In October, Osmajic was banned from eight games by the FA for biting Blackburn’s Owen Beck. He pleaded guilty to allegations of violence and was fined £15,000.
