George Hirst: Scotland call up Ipswich Town forward for Greece tie in Nations League

Hirst, an international competition in England under 20, qualifies for Scotland through his grandfather, said, “providing something different from what Scotland already has.

“He is 6-foot-3, strong, mobile and smart,” Paul told BBC Scotland. “But he is a thinker, and he is a man who has to work hard for his own opportunities.

“He is the son of former Sheffield forward David Hirst, so he has blood. And the apples don’t fall on the tree.”

Hirst missed nearly two months of the season with a knee injury and last semester Ipswich’s promotion sport.

Paul added: “They are not a small injury, they are a huge setback.”

“But he was firm, he played on a high octane side, and they liked to work hard from the front. He was a big unit and he would use his body.

“He’s not the original shooter, he’s not a pure all-around player, but he’s a guy who’ll be nice.”
