Chelsea condemn ‘abhorrent’ racist abuse of Wesley Fofana

Chelsea condemned the “obnoxious” online racist abuse suffered by defender Wesley Fofana and said “will not be tolerated”.

Fofana, 24, shared six racist news on screenshot of his Instagram story on Monday as Chelsea sent him to the Premier League with a 1-0 defeat by Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday.

Arsenal felt that Fofana had been lucky enough to stay on the court after committing several fouls at the Emirates Stadium.

“Chelsea Football Club is shocked and disgusted by the recent increase in online racial abuse by our players,” a statement from Chelsea said.

“Abuse of Wes Fofana suffered yesterday’s attention, which is abomination and will not be tolerated.

“Wes and all of our players have our full support. We will work with relevant authorities to identify the perpetrators and take the strongest action.”

Chelsea will be related to Instagram posts.

Fofana’s online abuse comes after a recent case involving Calvin Bassey of Fulham, Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure, England defender Kyle Walker, Joe Willlock of Newcastle United and Khadija Shaw of Manchester City.

In a recent interview with BBC Sport, Samuel Okafor, CEO of the anti-discrimination agency, kicked out IT (KIO), saying the level of abuse in British football “Get the crisis point.”

This season, Fofana has made 14 Premier League appearances this season and missed three months with a hamstring injury.

BBC Sport has contacted Instagram owner Meta for comment.
