Bruno Fernandes: Manchester United captain brushes off criticism as fine form continues

“Obviously, it’s not good to hear about you, but at the same time, it motivates you and obviously people think you need to improve a lot of things.

“You have to have a positive understanding, whatever people are saying, if that’s a room for improvement. I have a lot of respect for Roy Keane.

“Obviously, not everyone will like or think the same way, I respect everyone’s point of view, I have a lot of respect for Roy Keane, I accept my game, leadership and everything in my life has improved a lot.”

Fernandez has been involved in 31 goals in all matches this season, with only Mohamed Salah (54) and Erling Haaland (33) having more goals in Premier League players.

Since his joint debut in February 2020, only Manchester City’s Kevin de Bruyne (90) has recorded more assists in all of the five European leagues, rather than Fernandez (80).

After Leicester’s regular win, he told Sky Sports: “We knew it would be difficult and we had to be at the best level. In the first half, we made mistakes in the transition, but in the second half we were better at controlling the game and getting the goal.

“We have to go deeper on the court against Arsenal, and we don’t feel they are walking a lot.

“I think you can see some progress, but it has to continue. We have important games.

“I want to score as much as I can because it’s a big part of my game and I need to help my teammates. I need to step on the edge of the box and get the goal because it’s one of my qualities.”

Amorim also retained praise for Fernandes, who set goals for Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho before going on strike.

The Manchester United boss said: “He’s a special person, he’s always ready and he can recover well. I don’t know the future, but I’m reading what the show department told me, the numbers, and then what I see in the game.

“I always see a dangerous Bruno, a Bruno that can be recovered in every situation. So he will stay there.

“I already know Bruno. What surprised me the most was the way he worked every day, and it was a surprise.

“We were frustrated when we saw Bruno in Portugal, and I was really surprised, he was a very good professional. You can understand this frustration, and it was a surprise to me.”
