Thomas Tuchel: England boss says he must earn right to sing national anthem

England manager Thomas Tuchel said he had to “win the right” to sing the national anthem.

“It means everything. It means a lot to me and I can assure you, but I can feel it makes sense, it’s so emotional, it’s so powerful, it’s the national anthem, and I have to win my right to sing.”

Lee Carsley criticized England’s makeshift spells for not singing last year.

Tuchel joked at a press conference after the team announced that they did know the words of the national anthem, but planned to win the right to sing with “results, build groups and do my job correctly.”

He said: “Maybe I have to go deeper into the culture and get my rights from you, the players, the supporters, so everyone feels ‘he should sing now, he is a member of ourselves, he is a British manager, he should sing’.”
