Dario Essugo: Chelsea agree £18.5m deal for Sporting midfielder
Chelsea has agreed to a £100 million fee to sign sports midfielder Dario Essugo, who is currently on loan at Las Palmas.
The 20-year-old was awarded a seven-year contract and offered a one-year option to accept medical treatment and agree to personal terms.
The deal means Portugal’s Under-21 international team joined in June as Moises Caicedo’s deputy champion defensive midfield option.
Senior sources at Stamford Bridge said he impressed the scouts as he grew rapidly throughout the season.
They hope to join Essugo in the team at the newly expanded club World Cup Championship in the United States in June.
Essugo has made 25 appearances for his parents’ club sports and has been on loan for 17 games this season at the top Spanish club Las Palmas.
Chelsea also signed a 17-year-old winger Geovany Quenda from Sports costs £40m This week.
