Swansea City: Andy Coleman’s position as chairman set to end

Early in Coleman’s tenure, Swansea head coach Russell Martin traveled to Southampton in a legal dispute, and it was finally settled last year.

Meanwhile, Swansea appointed Paul Watson as athletic director—a role he lasted for 16 months—and Michael Duff was fired less than six months later.

They ended up replacing Duff with Luke Williams, who kept the club in the championship game before showing hope this season before leaving him last month before the downturn in early 2025.

Williams arrived from Williams’ former Notts County in Williams to begin his role as Swansea football director at Watson’s long-awaited replacement Richard Montague.

Swansea has been criticized for its transfer work in every window of the Coleman era.

During Duff’s brief reign, Swansea recruited a number of players, including Kristian Pedersen, Nathan Tjoe-a-On, Mykola Kuharevich and Jerry Yates, who had little influence on the club.

Fans raised concerns again in the recent January window as Captain Matt Grimes was sold to Coventry City, a deal that was a heavy blow to the squad that already lacked quality and depth.

Only midfielder Lewis O’Brien and centre-back Hannes Delcroix joined the loan, although Swedish under-21 international Melker Widell signed on Aab Aalborg and then loaned the Danish outfit.

Williams expressed his concerns a few weeks before his departure.

“I think the chairman was a little shocked because things were not prepared and organized to the level he expected.” Williams said in early February.

“It shouldn’t be a panic station within 48 hours, just crazy trying to accomplish something that should be prepared several months in advance.”

He added: “But, since he (Coleman) made an appointment here, there have been a lot of people who have really gotten a lot of opportunities. And I don’t think a lot of people have taken this opportunity.”
