Sam Billings would ‘jump’ at chance to become England white-ball captain
In addition to the captain, Wicketkeeper Billings also said that any rebuilding of the English white team is an “opportunity” for players trying to force themselves into the international setup.
“The domestic cricket talent in this country always exists, of course, white cricket,” Billings said. “You don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Here or there, it will be a tweak that chooses a very good, balanced side.
“This should provide a great opportunity for all of us in England. If you are going to reach out and perform well, have a chance to snap up, or should have these formats. As a player, I’m looking at that idea “Why not do that, let’s try to get back there’. ”
Stokes became the candidate, possibly the one-day captain of the T20 captain, and did not consider the all-around player after Key said England was “stupid” on Thursday.
In terms of leadership, Stokes seems to be the ideal choice given his role in revitalizing the England Test.
But his fitness records are mottled – the 33-year-old had knee surgery at the end of 2023 and is recovering from hamstring surgery. Stokes has not played white cricket for England in 18 months and has had to carefully consider his workload when England faces five home tests against India ahead of the Australian Ashes Tour.
Billings said Stokes’ “priority” should continue to be Test cricket.
“I can’t say high enough,” Billings added. “There is no better person in terms of captains and all-around cricketers.
“But his first priority is ashes and five test series against India.”
“He might be in a position where he can answer where his body can take him. Harry Brook is another person who suits similar standards. You have to balance it. Playing for England has never been so difficult.”
