Motsepe Secures Second Term as CAF President

South African billionaire Patrice Motsepe is re-elected to president of the African Football Federation (CAF) in the Congress of the Cairo Congress. The mining tycoon, who also owns Mamelodi Sundowns, took office for the first time in 2021 and was strongly supported by FIFA President Gianni Infantino. In either case, he had no path to victory. Meanwhile, one of Africa’s largest football stars of all time, Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroon Football Association, won a seat on the CAF Executive Committee. Eto’o’s elected representative to Central Africa, only a few days after he won an appeal to the decision to ban him from participating in the competition. Five other members, including Mustapha Ishola Raji of Liberia and Kurt Simeon-Okraku of Ghana, were not elected either.
