Mark Wood to miss England’s Test summer after knee surgery
Fast bowler Mark Wood may miss all home tests in England this summer after undergoing surgery for a left knee injury.
The 35-year-old has been ruled out before the end of July, about the end of the five Test series against India.
This means Wood may play Test cricket next time on the Australian Ashes Tour which begins in November.
A statement from England said Wood had been “managing an ongoing problem” for over a year, but during the championship trophy, he “experienced increased stiffness and discomfort”.
The Durham man struggled with injuries during Afghanistan’s defeat and then missed his last match against South Africa.
Wood has returned to India’s championship trophy and tour since last August.
“I’ve been working on all the formats that represent England since the beginning of last year,” Wood said. “But, now that I’m able to put my knees out, I’ve said with confidence that I’m going to go back to all the cylinders.
“I want to thank the surgeons, doctors, staff, my England teammates and coaches for their support – and of course our fans. I can’t wait to come back and for our team to be a huge 2025 for us.”
