Indian Wells 2025 results: Belinda Bencic stuns Coco Gauff to reach quarter-finals
Bencic’s level of play and what she achieved – will soon be impressive.
When she returns to the second-tier WTA Challenger Tour in October, she is everywhere, and the 2020 Olympic gold medalist will be in the top 50 in the world next week.
Bencic hit her low, flat ground touches, her backhand and off-road powers – especially the problem with Gauff.
Gauff turned 21 on Thursday and was often nailed to the backhand corner, while Bencic’s aggressiveness stifled one of the biggest effects shots of the 2023 U.S. Open champion.
Improved adaptability of BENCIC is also shown in the decision-maker. She beat Gauff 40-0 to lead 5-4 in the decision-makers and won two hours and 20 minutes later.
“Obviously, it’s not easy to do all the work after maternity leave,” Bencic said. Bencic was beaten in three sets by Gauff at the Australian Open in January.
“You feel that physical work is done from scratch, it’s just that your body changes too much in a short period of time.
“It’s really hard, but I definitely feel like I’m there like I used to be (maternity leave).
Defeat Gauff in 2025 defeated 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina in 2025 to beat the top five opponents of 2025 in the Abu Dhabi semifinal.
Bencic is only the sixth wildcard since the start of the competition in 1989, reaching the last eight wildcards for women in Indian Wells.
