2025 London Marathon set to become world’s largest

The 2025 London Marathon will make history the largest area in the world in the discipline.

More than 56,000 runners are expected to complete 26.2 miles on Sunday, April 27.

This will exceed the 55,646 collation records currently recorded for the 55,646 collation machines New York Marathon.

More than 1.3 million runners have completed the race since the first London Marathon in 1981.

More than 840,000 people applied to vote for this year’s competition, breaking the 578,304 record in the 2024 edition.

49% of UK applicants are female, while applications between the ages of 20 and 29 have increased by 105%.

“The 45th edition has been a landmark year for us, and it’s a great sign to be the biggest marathon ever performed anywhere in the world,” said Hugh Brasher, CEO of the London Marathon.

“The Marathon Anniversary is an extraordinary day, with communities gathering to celebrate the best of humanity as thousands of participants participated in the legendary 26.2-mile challenge from Greenwich to the mall and raised tens of millions of charities along the way.”
