Six Nations: Tommy Freeman ready for switch to centre
Freeman is in a wealthy scoring state, crossing every game in England this year in the Six Nations. If he faces Wales again on Saturday, he will be the first British player to score in every round of the six countries.
French Wing Philippe Bernat-Salles is the only player to achieve this feat since Italy joined the game in 2000, although his fellow countryman Louis Bielle-Biarrey will also try to achieve the feat when he plays Scotland in France.
Saturday’s game will be Freeman’s first experience playing football at the Princeathical Stadium.
“After talking about this with the lads, I knew it was a great place, the crowds were electric on the roof,” he said.
Apart from the usual fierce competition between the two countries, England hopes they will end the day on the top of the Six Nations Table.
The French leader is ahead of England and has a high score difference than any other team. In third place Ireland, she was behind England before defeating Italy in their final.
However, Freeman insists that chasing the four-try bonus won’t change the way England plays against the game.
“I don’t think it affects us as players, we know what we can control,” he added. “We are very aggressive with the ball, intend to run, and that’s all we can do, what happens.”
“If we keep playing, hoping to try to stand out from it. If that puts some pressure on other teams, it would be a win.”
Freeman also revealed that one thing was unique in England’s preparations, with head coach Steve Borthwick asking for his rap skills.
“In yesterday’s meeting, Steve was talking about these buzzwords, they kind of rhymes, he noticed and asked us ‘Is there a rap, who would you choose to rap?’
“I used to do a rap in the Saints, so one of the lads mentioned my name. So last night, stressed rap.
“I did our collision trick this morning. It crashed so great that I ended up tearing it up to everyone and then flowing to myself.”
