Ivory Coast Opposition Unites in Bid to Challenge Ruling Party

With the presidential election on the Ivory Coast to be held in October, dozens of opposition parties formed a unified front, a peaceful alliance. The coalition aims to demand election reforms and challenge the dominance of the ruling party. It includes major political forces such as the Ivory Coast Democratic Party (PDCI), the country’s oldest political party, and the Movement of Capable Generations (MGC), the party of former First Lady Simone Gbagbo. However, former President Laurent Gbagbo’s party remains absent, dispersing the opposition into three episodes. However, the alliance could force runoff elections. If this happens, it could unite opposition voters and pose a serious challenge to President Alasan Ouattara’s party. As political tensions intensify, the coalition’s ability to mobilize broad support will be crucial in the upcoming vote.
