Ireland cricket call off men’s Afghanistan series ‘for financial reasons’
Irish soldiers canceled plans to host a multi-format series in Afghanistan this year “for economic reasons.”
According to the men’s future tour plan, Ireland plans to conduct a test against Afghans against Afghans, three ODIs and three T20s.
However, the Irish men’s team will play their first home T20I series against England in September, and host the ODI and T20 series against the West Indies in May and June, respectively.
“For economic reasons, a planned series is targeted at Afghanistan,” said Warren Deutrom, CEO of Cricket Ireland.
“This decision is part of our management of short-term budget constraints and our requirement to comply with the requirements of the Board of Directors to provide balanced investments in the organization’s strategic objectives.”
He added that Irish fans will be “able to enjoy some of the best cricketers in the world”.
Women in Ireland will welcome Zimbabwe for three T20Is and two ODIs in July and will receive three ODIs in Pakistan in the second month.
Their schedule will also include participating in two ICC World Cup qualifiers.
The women’s team will compete in Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh, Thailand and Scotland in the World Cup qualifying round from April 9 to 18.
