Ethiopia’s Historic Africa Hall Reopens After Decade-long Renovation

The African Hall in Ethiopia is a historical symbol of pan-African solidarity and has been renovated and modernized after a decade of restoration projects. The building was originally unveiled by Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie, which played a key role in Africa’s struggle for independence in the Organization of African Unity (OAU). The refurbished structure was originally designed by Italian architect Arturo Mezzedimi and now has modern technology that improves accessibility and enhanced security features. Nevertheless, it retains its original mid-left modernist aesthetic. The project’s crown jewel Afewerk Tekle’s stained glass masterpiece, The All Liberation of Africa, has been fully restored, symbolizing the continent’s ongoing journey of unity and progress. The remodeled Africa Hall is now expected to host African leaders for future generations.
