Pakistan train carrying hundreds of passengers attacked by militants

A train carrying hundreds of passengers was attacked and stopped by militants in the Balluchistan region of Pakistan.

BALOCH PLA (BLA) confirmed that it attacked the Jaffar Express train traveling from Quetta to Rawalpindi.

A statement from the group said it had bombed the road before hitting a train in the far-reaching Sibi district. It claims that the train is under its control.

Pakistani police told local journalists that the information they received said three people, including the train driver, were injured in the attack.

Police added that security forces have been sent to the scene of the attack.

A spokesman for the Bal Road Provincial Government told local newspaper Dawn that there were reports of “strong shooting” on the train.

The BLA claims it holds many passengers, including security personnel, and warns that if attempts to rescue the passengers it holds.

However, officials have not confirmed that anyone has been taken hostage.

“The train is still in trouble in front of the tunnel surrounded by mountains,” AFP reported.

Meanwhile, the country’s interior minister, Mohsin Nawaz, condemned the attack and said he prayed for the quick recovery of the injured.
