I Tried the New JBL Flip 7 and Charge 6 Bluetooth Speakers and Liked What I Heard
It’s been four years since we’ve seen the upgrade of the JBL’s flip and charging portable Bluetooth speakers, so I’m curious to see and listen to the company’s new work Flip 7 ($150) and Charge 6 ($200) speakers. While JBL doesn’t fundamentally redesign external speakers – they look similar to their predecessors, they do have better sound, battery life and lossless audio on a USB-C connection. They are now available for a variety of color options on April 4th.

Both speakers are IP68 waterproof and dustproof, and are equipped with newly developed woofers that help improve bass performance, as well as a necessary reference to AI, and almost all new products seem to be covered these days. In the case of Flip 7 and Charge 6, JBL said that this is one of “AI sound enhancement” because speakers are prevented from being distorted when pushing the speaker towards its driver’s “maximum capability.” In other words, JBL improves the digital processing of the speakers through an upgrade algorithm.
The charge 7 now has a removable handle.
Charge 6 is slightly larger than charge 5, but weighs the same as its predecessor, at that time it was 2.11 pounds. One of the more obvious external changes is the charge port of the new model (this port is why the speaker line is called “charge”). Instead of the USB-A external port hidden under the washer, a bare USB-C port is both charging and charging. It allows you to use the speaker as a power bank and charge like a smartphone while streaming music to the speaker.
In addition, JBL adds a movable handle to the charge 6. Once connected, it gives the speaker a mini boom box look, which is more similar to the JBL’s acceleration extreme wire. Meanwhile, Flip 6 has a new push lock accessories system that allows you to swap between the login and the loop (both included). Both speakers can be placed horizontally or vertically.
Press the button (on the left side of the top) and you can remove the flipped loop attachment for the included carabiner.
Larger charges always sound much better than smaller flips, which produces more bass and a larger overall sound. However, due to its compact, solid design and good sound, Flip gained a loyal fan base. To sum up, both speakers have risen by $20 and are highly competitive in the Bluetooth speaker market.
After listening to both models for a few days, they do produce more bass and with better overall clarity. Although I occasionally experience some distortion at maximum volume, they also sway loudly depending on the music track. Needless to say, the Charge 6 offers a wider track, bass and a bigger volume than the Flip 7. Still, the Flip 7 has a significantly enhanced sound, and it remains one of the speakers for the speakers to improve its status on the same price of the Bose price Soundlink Flexaccepted some small upgrades last year.
The speaker can stand vertically.
Using speakers Auracast FeaturesYou can link multiple Auracast-enabled JBL speakers to enhance sound or create stereo pairing (it replaces JBL’s party boost mode and Looks incompatible PartyBoost and Connect Plus speakers with JBL).
I’m always grateful for the included USB-C audio feature, whether it’s on Bluetooth speakers or headphones, but I can’t use it for FLIP 7 or Cash 6 even after the paid firmware update 6 claims USB-C audio support is part of the update. (The speaker has not released yet, so I suspect I will see another firmware update by April 4.)
Testing the USB-C audio feature with other Bluetooth speakers, I found that the sound only improved slightly, but is usually more dynamic and clean with USB-C in wired mode. These are relatively compact mono speakers, so you just don’t get sound benefits from wired connections that might get from high-end speakers that offer a richer and more detailed sound. However, I will keep the final judgment until I get the function to work.
The Flip 7 looks very similar to the Flip 6, but has a newly developed woofer.
We will see street prices shaking on these speakers, but JBL may offer some discounts later this year. With the release of the 6 fee, JBL is on sale Cost is $120. The Flip 6 costs $130, which is $20 cheaper than the Flip 7. I would also like to point out that JBL told me that the plan 6 with no charge 6 has Wi-Fi connectivity. this Charging 5 WiFi Released in September 2023 and is available for $250.
Over the next few days, I will give the speaker a full review after I spend more time comparing the FLIP 7 and the paid 6 with the competition model (and making USB-C audio to work). Although I have issues with USB-C audio, both speakers may make our list Best Bluetooth speakers in 2025. I’ll spend the extra money on a charge 6, but the Flip 7 is easier to carry around and put in a cup holder or water bottle holder on your bike.
