Australia v England 150th anniversary Test at MCG will be day-night match

England and Australia celebrate the 150th anniversary of the first men’s test match, which will be the day and night competition at the Melbourne Cricket Stadium.

Cricket Australia said the disposable fixture will be held at the MCG from 11 to 15 March 2027 with a capacity of approximately 100,000.

MCG hosted the host in the first test on both sides in March 1877, Australia won 45 victories, and then England won the second game in the same venue, giving the series a 1-1 lead.

In 1977, Australia and England held the 100th anniversary of the test between Australia and England on the MCG, and Australia won 45 more victories.

Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg said the match would be “one of the cricket matches”.

He added: “Playing under the lights will be a great way to celebrate the rich legacy of our game and test the modern evolution of cricket.

“This will also help ensure more people can participate and see what is a wonderful moment. We look forward to further celebrating this historic moment as we approach.”
