Six Nations: France poised to break clutch of try records

France’s victory over Ireland 42-27 in Dublin on Saturday put them in the lead for Six Nations champion Chase.

But their free-scoring form not only allowed the trophy engraver to sharpen his tools, but also forced the rewrite of history.

United’s searing table has been 7 attempts in four matches – the Frenchman is already a Frenchman’s record in the Six Nations campaign.

He has already reached the level of his attempts in a single match against Jacob Stockdale, the Irish Wing, in this tournament.

If he faces Scotland again in Paris on Saturday, the 21-year-old will turn his attention to the championship history.

Cyril Lowe of England and Ian Smith of Scotland made eight attempts in the 1914 and 1925 championship matches respectively.

If he keeps level with Lowe and Smith, Bielle-Biarrey will also match the unique achievements Compatriot Philippe Bernat-Salles has achieved in each match in the 2001 Scoring Championships.
