Manchester United: Thousands of fans protest against club ownership
Banners said “we want our club to come back” and “theft of £1 billion, referring to the amount of debt paid by the Glazer family when they bought the club in 2005.
Manchester United’s total debt, including £300 million outstanding expenses, exceeds £1 billion. In the last fiscal year, they paid £37 million in interest on debt.
The noisy protests arrived at Old Trafford at 16:05 GMT and then drove under the Munich Tunnel.
These scenes are the kind of thinking that when he bought it at the club, he will be working on United fan Ratcliffe, who grew up in nearby Failsworth.
But Chris Haymes, who organized the protests in 1958, said Ratcliffe’s ties to the Glazer Family were contaminated.
He added: “Sir Jim has to make some tough decisions, but for the moment he seems to be the Glazers’ shield.”
“It seems like a real problem. He has the opportunity to make a good impression and I’m not sure that’s what he does.
“This (protest) has nothing to do with football and it’s been 20 years. The way the Glazers buys clubs has been a burden to our support.
“The solution is that Glazers leave the club. Jim Ratcliffe will never seal his legacy at this club unless he removes Glazers. That’s that simple.”
