“10 Million African Girls” Campaign to Empower a Generation

Simi Nwogugu, president and CEO of the Junior Achievement of Africa (JA), announced a campaign to provide entrepreneurship, leadership and advocacy skills to ten million girls across Africa to build thriving and sustainable communities, eradicate extreme poverty, and reduce gender-based violence in sub-Saharan Africa. Tagged as 10 million African girls (10mag), the campaign is a government that governments, companies, foundations, foundations, civil society organizations serve girls and individuals around the world, civil society organizations, working with JA Africa to improve access to better quality education and economic participation opportunities for girls and young women in marginalized communities in Africa.

The 10mag campaign will address key challenges facing African girls and young women, including high child marriage and teen birth rates, especially in the West and Central Africa, where only 33% of girls are in full high school and one in seven girls, and in some cases, three-thirds of girls get married before the age of 14. Africa travels to a female-led startup in 2024.

The campaign coincided with the graduation ceremony of 52 girls from seven African countries – Ghana, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe – participated in the first week of March, attending the main camps in Accra. Lead stands for Leadership, Empowerment, Achievement and Development, a week-long program that empowers girls with high scores to become leaders in their communities and countries. Sponsored by Delta Air Lines, the camp features female volunteers from airlines and women from a variety of industries who are role models for girls and strengthen JA Africa’s commitment to building mindsets and skills for each girl’s future success.

“We are proud to support leading bootcamps and the 10mag campaign because they represent an important step to empower young girls in Africa,” said Tad Hutcheson, managing director of community engagement at Delta.

Empowering young women through education and opportunities

Simi Nwogugu conceived 10MAG as part of its Aspen Global Leadership Network (AGLN) scholarship aims to raise funds and support for multiple programs aimed at empowering young girls and women. In addition to the JA program, the event will support other nonprofits’ programs to serve marginalized girls in Africa. The official launch of the 10MAG campaign was held on March 8, 2025 in Accra, Ghana, and a special certification ceremony was held to place the main camp girls as the inauguration of the 10MAG network, and the community will provide them with ongoing guidance, resources, resources and opportunities to advance their leaders and entrepreneurs.

“If half of the youth population is denied access to quality educational and economic participation opportunities, Africa will not be able to reach its full potential,” Simi Nwogugu said. “The purpose of the 10mag campaign is to inspire actions to enable our young women to be the tools needed to drive economic growth and lift themselves and their communities out of poverty. They will also be in leadership positions, enabling them to build a social safety net for the girls behind them. We invite all companies, governments, NGOs and individuals that share this vision to work with us to develop our dream Africa, and all young people, regardless of gender, can reach their full potential.”
