Ryder Cup: Sergio Garcia hopes Hong Kong LIV Golf win catches eye of Europe captain Luke Donald
Sergio Garcia hopes winning the LIV Golf Hong Kong title will help convince European captain Luke Donald to participate in the 2025 Ryder Cup.
Espanyol scored an impressive 7-63 with 63, scoring three shots from Dean Burmester of South Africa.
Last November Garcia rejoined DP World Journey In the 2025 season, the Tour’s fine was reportedly worth £1 million as his former defector competed in the LIV event to qualify himself for the Ryder Cup Select.
Garcia, 45, is a record-breaking scorer in the Ryder Cup, wants to run for 11 European records with Lee Westwood and Sir Nick Faldo later this year in New York.
“We’ve been in touch all the time, so I know he (Donald) has been following (me). The only thing I can do is keep playing golf well.”
“I just want to try to help the European team like I’m every time I’m a member of that team. Hopefully he’ll think I’m enough.”
Garcia is out of the world’s top 400 because there is no ranking point in the LIV event, so it must be one of Donald’s six wildcard picks.
Donald said he had talks with Garcia over the Ryder Cup last year, which will be held at Bethpage Black from September 26 to 28.
Garcia won 16 titles on the European Tour and 11 PGA Tour titles.
He joined the series Liv Golf in the Saudi Arabian-backed series (Saudi Arabia Bask Bask Bask Bask) with other prominent figures in the sport.
Garcia’s victory at the Hong Kong Golf Club in Sheung Shui started on his last day at the top of the rankings with Paul Casey and American Peter Uihlein of England.
The former Masters champion lowered the five-thirds Eagle from the eighth to the 11th hole and was caught but couldn’t be caught.
Last year, it was Garcia’s second LIV title after his victory at Liv Golf Andalucia.
