Indian Wells 2025 results: Novak Djokovic loses to Botic van de Zandschulp
Djokovic bids to make more history and has an independent sixth men’s title in Indian Wells.
But after goodbye, he fell down after making a series of ugly mistakes.
In a performance below the high standard, Djokovic made 37 unmandatory mistakes, with only 16 winners to mitigate his losses.
“Congratulations to my opponent. I think it’s just a bad day,” Djokovic said, who hasn’t surpassed the third round in the last four Indian Wells.
The former world number two exit at the hands of a lucky loser after losing to Italy last year.
Djokovic’s serve return – one of his unparalleled success – against Van de Zandschulp, who drowned the Serbs’ second serve to transform five of the eight breakout points.
After recovering from a bad start, it seemed like Djokovic had settled down quickly.
But more mistakes he described as “terrible” allowed Van de Zandschulp to control the decision-maker.
Even Britain’s Andy Murray returns to his coaching team, it can’t stop performances that are below the bar.
They plan to head to the Miami Open in Wells, India together, and they will hope that Djokovic’s problems are not going deeper.
The time was obviously caught up in May, Djokovic, who turned 38, but his performance in Melbourne shows that he can still beat most opponents if he is fully healthy and motivated.
