Fifa World Cup 2026: Donald Trump says co-host tensions will make tournament ‘more exciting’
U.S. President Donald Trump said tensions between the United States and 2026 World Cup co-hosts Canada and Mexico will benefit the game.
Together with FIFA President Gianni Infantino, signing the executive order with the signing of a task force to oversee the preparations for the game, he was asked by reporters how he viewed the World Cup in light of the current trade situation between the three countries.
“I think that will make it more exciting,” Trump said. “Nervous is a good thing, and I think it makes it even more exciting.”
Trump will chair the task force, which will “plan, organize and execute” competitions with federal agencies.
