Jade Jones: Olympic champion quits taekwondo to pursue boxing
Jones, one of Wales’ most successful Olympians, admitted that there was a degree of sadness to give up Taekwondo, who had represented GB in four Olympics and won two gold medals and won the world championship.
Jones won the 19-year-old at the 2012 London Olympics (2012 London Olympics), won the gold medal in his first attempt and won the championship in Rio de Janeiro four years later, thus becoming the youngest GB Olympic gold medalist.
At the 2020 Tokyo Games, she later described it as the “biggest low” of her career.
In Paris 2024, Jones’ bid for Olympic history ended in an early defeat in the first round of Taekwondo-57kg.
She bids to become the first three Olympic champion and failure in the sport’s history Leaving Jones “destructive”.
Jones lost to Macedonian Miljana Reljikj on the number of hits registered, which was used as a final foul after three rounds.
Jones now chooses to stay away from the sports she likes.
“My family is a little sad that I gave up Taekwondo,” she added.
“I’ve never used both hands. After 20 years of footsteps, I switched it.
“Boxing is good for me. It was initially a distraction, but now I’m going to do it because I just like it.”
