How Kenya’s Indigenous Communities Predict the Weather
In Kenya, indigenous communities rely on traditional rainforests to predict weather. These rainforesters use various prediction methods, such as observing flowering trees – if no leaves bloom, it indicates a lack of rainfall. In addition, they rely on animal behavior and celestial observation to predict. These long-standing technologies have been passed on verbally and deeply rooted in the cultural heritage of various Kenyan tribes. However, not all meteorologists believe in their expertise, although their predictions are often proven to be accurate in guiding farmers. Therefore, there is an increasing value for combining these indigenous prediction methods with modern meteorological data.
