WSL relegation backlash ‘has not changed our perspective’ – Nikki Doucet

WPLL has previously stated that nothing is fine because it evaluates how it can grow WSL and encourage more investment.

It said shareholders, players, fans and football associations will all be involved in it to help “grow” the league.

“We have to study the range of possibilities that we and all of this can be used, and it is really thoughtful,” Dussett said.

“We went deep into the impact of the solution and the impact of everything we did at the top, i.e. it landed on the pyramid.”

Doucet did not explicitly rule out the potential for layoffs and relegation, she said: “Again, I just go back to what I said before because I think it’s a real important difference and competitive advantage in our league.

“I don’t think it’s a question from our perspective.”

WPLL said it will consult a fan group before proceeding if any formal advice is made at a future shareholder meeting.

“It’s definitely a fan group that is part of the consultation. We’re still working on concepts and options,” WPLL added.

“When the proposal is in a place where we can consult, informal and formal consultation will be conducted. The governance process is strong.

“There is nothing to vote for right now. We’re still working hard and thinking about whether we’re doing something different, is that the right thing?”
