Pope Francis: ECB apologises for social media post saying ill Pope ‘loves The Ashes’
England and Wales Cricket Council apologized for social media posts and Pope Francis “loves ashes”.
A message on the 88-year-old Pope’s X account, who has been in the hospital since February, was posted to Mark Ash on Wednesday.
In response, the England cricket account wrote: “Even @pontifex loves ashes”. Since then, the post has been deleted.
“This is a poorly judged position and was quickly removed. We apologize for any crime,” a spokesman for the ECB said.
On Wednesday, Pope Francis’ account posted: “Ash reminds us of who we are, and it’s good for us.
“This makes us the rough edges of our narcissism, brings us back to reality, makes us more humble and open. None of us are God; we are all on the way.”
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a 40-day period for Christians to prepare for Easter.
