I Don’t Care If Conversational Siri Lands on My iPhone in 2027 or Ever

I said, “Siri, play Fetty Wap in Spotify.”

“Sorry,” the iPhone Siri answered via AirPods. “I didn’t catch that.”

I just repeat myself on my MacBook on the table in front of me to understand and start playing music for everyone to listen to.

I said, “Sili, stop.” My laptop and the music of peace stopped. The iPhone Siri didn’t speak, maybe it was shame for itself – if the digital assistant would be ashamed.

MacBook Siri works technically, but I don’t want the MacBook Siri to work, I want the iPhone Siri to work. If I had just hit the play button on my iPhone, I wouldn’t have endured this comedy misfortune.

In Apple’s 2024 Global Developer Conference speech, it Apple Smart. However, according to Bloombergand the thoroughly updated Siri may not arrive until 11 months after that announcement, and we may have to wait until 2027 to really have more conversations with iOS 19.

Hey Siri, please don’t embarrass me in front of the barista.

Based on my experience at a coffee shop (and my experience at Siri), my thoughts are: whatever.

If there was more conversational Siri landing on my iPhone at this moment, I wouldn’t be using Siri anymore. I’ll try to find a way to use less digital assistant than before.

Apple integrated Siri into iPhones in 2011, and the company has been updating its Digital Assistant since. Although Apple brings more features to Siri (such as third-party app integration), it still gets plagued by problems whenever I use it.

Here is Siri’s main problem: When Siri makes mistakes, I feel like I’m wasting my time doing things I could have done faster and more efficiently.

Sure, Siri can call while I drive, but that can lead to distracted driving.

according to National Highway Safety Managementdistracting driving is any activity – texting, eating or talking to someone on the phone – that can shift your attention to driving. The government reports that distracted driving killed more than 3,000 people in 2022, the figures for the most recent year. Although none of these deaths are directly attributed to the use of voice assistants, I still don’t want to use Siri in ways that might put myself and others in danger.

My solution is never to use Siri. It’s clumsy and I don’t need to use it to perform basic tasks on my iPhone.

Chatgpt’s Siri integration didn’t impress me.

According to the clumsiness of some Apple engineers, Siri’s clumsiness is a known issue. The New York Times. In the report, John Burkey, a former Apple engineer who worked for Siri, compared Siri to “a big snowball,” he said that whenever Siri gets addition, it has to be rebuilt. Burkey said in the report that this means Siri cannot act as a creative assistant, such as Chatgpt or other AI tools.

But now that Apple has a partnership with Openai and Chatgpt, it is more integrated into Siri on some devices iOS 18.2that shouldn’t be a problem, right? Maybe, but I’ve already run into problems with Chatgpt on iPhone.

When I use Chatgpt in iOS 18.2, I asked it to give me instructions on how to brew a cup of coffee, but the instructions told me to measure my coffee grounds before grinding the cafe. I asked again and got a more direct answer with the appropriate steps.

There is a disclaimer at the bottom of these CHATGPT requests: “Check for error messages in important information.” However, if I’m using a digital assistant like chatgpt, I don’t have to check for errors. That’s all I used digital assistant in the first place. I don’t check to make sure the calculator’s answer is correct and I don’t have to figure out when it’s wrong.

So if I’ve already had Siri inefficiency and Chatgpt only helps with part of the time, why use it? If I want to feel frustrated when using my phone, I will keep the Blackberry curve from ten years ago. I just want any phone I have to use.

So, Apple, spend all the time updating Siri and making it more conversational or abolishing the plan altogether. Thankfully, I didn’t have to use Siri or Chatgpt on my iPhone to work fine. It no longer has these features.
