Liam Roberts: FA wants Millwall goalkeeper’s ban to be extended
The Football Association hopes to offer Millwall goalkeeper Liam Roberts a three-game ban to face dangerous challenges against Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta.
Roberts was sent out in a fifth-round FA Cup loss at Selhurst Park on Saturday, a high challenge, which left Mateta with 25 shots in his left ear.
The FA letter said the standard three-game ban was “apparently insufficient” and had filed a claim with the regulatory committee to increase it.
The BBC Sport was told Millwall would challenge the claim.
The club said in a statement that they will “continue to support” Roberts after the “terrible online abuse” he received.
In the half-time match of the Challenge of the Palace of Matchmaking Chairman Steve Parish, the Challenge called the challenge “the most resilient challenge I’ve ever seen.”
