Here’s why congresswomen are wearing pink for Trump’s speech tonight

Washington – Many Democratic women in Congress wear bright pink President Trump’s speech at a joint Congress meeting Tuesday, against the president.

Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández, New Mexico, who leads the Democratic Women’s Caucus Tell Time magazine stated that “our protests over Trump’s policies that negatively impact women and families.”

“Pink is the color of power and protest,” she told the magazine. “It’s time to improve the opposition and come to Trump loudly and clearly.”

A 96-member panel talks about their opposition to the president outside the U.S. Capitol address Leger Fernández asserted on Tuesday that “women can’t afford Trump.”

“He spent too much on money, health, life and safety,” she said. “From the cradle to old age, this man and the Republican agenda have wreak havoc on women in America. We want the world to know that we are standing in protest, we are standing in power. We are standing in pink, we are standing in opposition.”

In Mr. Trump’s first speech at a joint meeting of Congress in 2017, Democratic Congressional women dressed in white to emphasize women’s rights. Last year, then-President Joe Biden delivered an ITU speech, and the caucus members also wore white to draw attention to reproductive rights.

“Our message is clear: women must have access to the health care they need to control their lives and future. This means that women, not politicians, should be responsible for whether, when and how to start or how to grow their own family. This includes access to birth control, abortion, access to abortion and access to IVF,” the group said in a 2024 statement.
