Travis Hunter: Which NFL team will draft him? And what is a two-way player?
NFL teams have the opportunity to evaluate the prospects for this year’s draft at the Federation of Scouts over the weekend.
Although Hunter chose not to participate in any drills, he spoke with team officials and the media, which made it clear that he wanted to continue to attack and defend full-time.
Last season, he played in all 13 games at Colorado, winning four interceptions and 96 catches for a total of 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns. He played 714 (87%) offensive goals and played 748 (83%) defense.
But few people have played in the NFL. Chuck Bednarik was the last real two-way player, playing center and guard for Philadelphia since 1949-56.
Patrick Ricard is one of six players since 2006, playing 200 offenses and 200 defensive balls, but Baltimore’s guards have rarely appeared on defense since 2019.
William “Fridge” Perry, Troy Brown, Mike Flabel and Julian Edelman also played both, but none of them played regularly in the same season, as Sanders did with the Dallas Cowboys in 1996.
After being drafted, Woodson went almost all out, and Sanders told the team that they wouldn’t draft the Hunter if they didn’t plan to give him a chance to play.
“They said no one could do this the way I did it, but I told them I was just different,” Hunter said.
