Abbie Smith: Manchester City deal ‘once in a lifetime opportunity’ for teenage goalkeeper
When Smith completes A-level A, he will train with the club’s elite development squad (under 21 years old), which is very important for Victoria University students.
“My school has always been very supportive and they have been making sure I have backups in my education and it’s important for me to be able to continue studying in Manchester,” she said.
“I want to play football all the time, I want to be a career, and I really think that will help me push that.
“Professional football has always been my dream and I want to do my best.”
Jonathan Tuffey, the goalkeeper of the Women’s Premier League and men’s team, said Smith was “a honor for himself and his family”.
“She is very committed to her craft. She has been doing well since moving from boys in Hillsborough to boys over the past few years and is now ready for our first team.
“When we realized City’s interest, she got our full support. Now, her hard work has begun. I know her work ethics and the people around her, she will stride forward. The sky is her limit.”
