Major Siri Redesign May Be Delayed Again, Report Says
With Siri’s next update, it’s now expected that the virtual assistant’s bigger AI overhaul may not arrive until 2027 in May after some delays. iOS 19 plans are expected to eventually merge them into a system code-named “LLM Siri”, which will likely debut at WWDC soon and will be officially released next spring. But sources told Bloomberg’s next-generation Siri that is expected to be more conversational and intuitive, and that it will not be ready until the earliest iOS 2027.
The company did not respond to a request for comment.
As competitors like Openai and Google develop more advanced smart assistants, delays could put Apple at a serious disadvantage. The ultimate goal remains to make Siri more conversational and able to handle daily tasks.
Meanwhile, those delays came when Apple was preparing to launch Apple intelligence in China. The company is reportedly working with local companies to bring the software to China later this year to accommodate the software to comply with government regulations that limit the information that iPhone users can access.
Meanwhile, however, Dan Ives, a senior analyst at Wedbush Securities, said that because Apple takes a different approach to AI than its competitors, the timing may not be as frustrating as it seems.
“We think Apple is playing different games because they are LLM agnostic,” he said. “The new Siri design will happen, but not overnight.” ”
He added: “Apple is the collector of AI on its App Store. We estimate that 25% of people in the world will (eventually) access AI through Apple devices.”
