South African Open: Dylan Naidoo beats Laurie Canter in play-off after final round abandoned
Home favorite Dylan Naidoo claimed to have been eliminated due to rain after his final round at the South African Open on Sunday, beating England’s Laurie Canter.
Two times after needing to complete the second and third rounds on Saturday, the two shared the lead under the age of 14, but Del’s continued bad weather meant that the fourth round was abandoned, with the game going straight to the hole-by-hole playoffs between the 18th.
Naidoo, 27, fired a pleasant second shot, which put him four feet tall and Canter surpassed the pin.
The British won in Bahrain last month and then saw his birdie putt, but Naidoo kept his courage to demand a first-time DP Tour victory.
It also secured his position at the Open Championships held in Royal Porthush in July.
