Man Utd manager Amorim called ‘naive’ by Rooney over Premier League title ambition
Rooney’s comments on Manchester United have a huge weight given his achievements at the club.
He remained a record scorer at Manchester United in a brilliant period and won five league titles and Champions League, a central figure in Ferguson’s last side.
However, he had a square record as manager, initially excelled in the tough situation of the derby, moving to Major League Baseball with DC United, but then lasted only 15 and 25 games in the bad luck spells of Birmingham and Plymouth.
Amorim didn’t mention this when he answered Rooney’s comment. But from personal experience, he knows that talking about a team and managing a team is two completely different things.
“(Winning the Premier League) is the goal,” Amorim said. “Naughty is thinking we are going to do this season, or the best contenders next season.
“I know this moment, everyone knows everything. I’m an expert when I finish my career (competition). I know it’s really easy.
“Maybe not around me, but as a club, our goal is to win the Premier League, all the great glory and legend of this club, as we did in the past.
“We’re in tough times. I’m not naive, which is why I coached United here when I was 40.”
