Lewis Crocker v Paddy Donovan: Paddy Donovan wants rematch after controversial disqualification
Matchroom owner Eddie Hearn said Donovan’s disqualification was the result of crimes in the fight.
“I’m still trying to revolve around what’s going on, and it’s hard for me because I represent both of them,” he explained.
“Pardy kept saying to me, ‘You need to support me, I should never be disqualified’, and Lewis would say, ‘He hit me after you have to support me.”
“All I can do is to be honest, Paddy shot after the bell. If it was an isolated incident, I don’t think he would be disqualified, I think the referee gave Lewis time to recover and the battle was still going on, but the headbutts and the Headptaucts and Supper deductions were all mixed up.”
Hearn believes Donovan will “kick himself” in a failed manner, regardless of the controversy.
He added: “Eventually, Paddy threw the fight away, he just dropped Lewis, he was winning, and he had a very good boxing.”
“The only round Lewis has a breakdown of him is someone who has Paddy. I think Lewis is doing much better than that, but Paddy is doing well.”
Hearn also hopes to see a possible rematch at Windsor Park as the battle sells the SSE Arena.
However, he admitted that the IBF decision will determine what will happen next, and Crocker, Northern Ireland, could easily refuse to rematch as the 28-year-old has a chance to play the world championship now.
Hearn added: “I’m going to talk to Lewis about a rematch, I want to see it, but I also know he has a chance to win the world championship.”
“I think it will come down to IBF. If they ordered a rematch, that’s what it takes. If not, maybe Lewis sat down and said, ‘No, I’m fine, thanks’, waiting for his shot against the world champion.”
